My happy-not-sick-at-all Little Girl
So for the most part, I try to keep this blog as a record of Finley. And for the most part, all of my posts have been honest about motherhood, but have avoided a few of the not-so-great aspects of it. I am trying hard to train my thoughts towards positive things and I also read too many blogs of woman who have sick children, who struggled to become pregnant or who have lost children. (I know, I know... Devin thinks I'm crazy too.... How can I train my thoughts towards the positive while always reading the depressing????)
But for me, I have found a completely grateful and humble attitude towards being a parent because I see my healthy child (compared to a child who isn't), an easy, healthy, and unexpected pregnancy (compared to a woman who would gladly take on a complicated and difficult pregnancy if she could just BE pregnant), and an actively growing little girl who is very much alive (compared to the grief of never knowing what one's child would look like, act like, or be like). So for now I am going to continue to read these blogs and not complain about anything related to my little girl. I hope that the rest of this post seems honest without complaining because that is what I'm going for...
The past few days have been a bit unglamorous in the land of motherhood. I'll spare some of the details, but Finley had four times her normal amount of dirty diapers on Saturday and woke up as an incredibly fussy and inconsolable baby on Sunday. She has continued to alternate between fussiness and her usual happy-go-lucky self since then, but admittedly, is much better than she was this weekend. So today I spent $40 on what I hope to be the miracle cure to her bright red, raw diaper rash that sent her to absolute hysterics on Sunday. I broke down bawling while changing her, knowing that I was the cause of the horrendously loud shrieking. Yes, me... the one who is supposed to dry the tears was causing the tears and her little face clearly told me that she didn't understand why I would torture her so. And how could I explain that I was TRYING to make her feel better?
I think my fix-it personality is also frustrated. There seems to be no end to the dirty diaper situation and the nurse told me to call back in two weeks if she isn't better. Umm... two weeks! Are you kidding me????? I, of course, have scanned the internet looking for the cause and here is what I have found...
It could be due to any of the following:
Teething
Ear Infections
Vaccinations
Food Allergies
All of which are not only possible, but quite LIKELY at her age. Oh, brother! It seems as if my fix-it-ness is out-of-luck. I am thankful that Finley's spirit is better, that the new diaper rash cream is helping, and that it continues to rain and rain here so that I have nothing better to do than cuddle my little girl on the couch! And really, what could be better than cuddling her on the couch anyway? =)
