All About Jude: 4 Months Old

Dear Jude,
You are 4 months old today!  Exactly one year ago today, I found out that I was pregnant with you!  I will never forget that day because I was so shocked to find out that I was expecting you!  I had taken a pregnancy test the week before and since it had been negative, I assumed that I wasn't pregnant.  There was such a slim chance that I would be pregnant that I could hardly believe it when the test immediately showed that I was expecting you!

Those first few months were so rough.  I was so scared that I was going to lose you that I didn't allow myself to completely enjoy you.  I was trying to protect myself and not become attached to you.  Looking back I realize how foolish that was.  Even if I had lost you, I would have thoroughly regretted not enjoying the short time I did have with you.

Thankfully, God's plan was for you to be our healthy, precious little boy and I was never more happy to get to 14 weeks and then again to 19 weeks and then again to 39.5 weeks and have your health confirmed again and again!

You continue to be such a joy!  You are a sweet, happy baby who makes being your Mommy way too easy!

Here's what you've been up to this month:

  • You weigh 12 pounds and are 25-26 inches long.
  • You are in size 1-2 diapers and wear 0-3 month shorts and tops, 3-6 month onesies, pajamas, and one-pieces, and newborn-sized shoes.
  • You are now eating every 4 hours during the day though you still have times when you eat every 3.5 hours instead.
  • You eat 5-6 times a day around 13 minutes each time.
  • You went on a growth spurt halfway through the month and stopped sleeping through the night.  We're working on getting you back to a good night routine.  It's been difficult figuring out what is going to work.
  • You are on more of a routine these days and I think in the next few weeks the routine will be even more solidified.
  • You are WAY more alert and are now actively playing with toys.  You are in love with the exersaucer... it keeps you entertained for sooooo long!
  • You rolled over from your stomach to your back this month and have almost rolled from your back to your stomach.
  • Your congestion has gotten so much better!
  • You barely have any hair on your sweet head and it looks like a different color in every light so I'm not sure what it'll end up being like.
  • You went swimming for the first time this month and weren't a big fan... the water was toooo cold.
  • You are so much better at bathtime though!
  • You absolutely love your feet and grab onto them as tight as you possibly can.  You try to get them into your mouth, but haven't been successful yet.
  • Your favorite thing is to stand up.  You would stand all day if you could.
  • Your neck control continues to get better and better.
  • You also love to suck on your arm.
  • You will grab anything around you and hold on tight.  You particularly love to grab hair and have pulled your sister's more than once!
  • You are having a more difficult time falling asleep when we are out and about, but usually love looking around so it's not a big deal yet.
  • You love your binky right after nursing and when you are settling down for sleep, but other than that you don't really need it.
  • Halfway through the month, you began to hate your swaddle blanket and would fight to get out of it, but now you are enjoying it again.
  • You are "talking" more and more.  And we love hearing your voice!  You laugh every once in awhile and it is the best sound ever!
  • Your eyes are still blue.  The shade of blue continues to change, but they are still blue.
  • You spit up a ton these days!  We both usually go through a couple of clothing changes and my laundry pile is full of burb clothes and bibs.
  • Sometimes you cry when you get bored, but that is rare.  If you're crying, it almost always means that you are  hungry!  You definitely aren't afraid to let us know when it is time for you to eat.  It's so funny to see you get so worked up because it's the only time you do!
  • You are still my cuddle bug and love to be held.  I'm more than happy to oblige.
  • At night, we often have some little "talks".  I set you up against my knees and I tell you how much I love you and we talk about life and love.  I pray that we will have these talks for the rest of our lives.
  • You are growing so quickly... just the way you are supposed to and I am loving every minute!
Love,
Mommy
