Labor Day Weekend 2012

Devin decided to take off Friday of Labor Day weekend so we had an extra day with him!  He took Finley to school which she LOVED and it allowed me to take a long shower and get ready slowly... So nice!  After we picked Finley up from school (she's only half day on Friday's), we headed to the Science Museum.  Devin hadn't been since he was just a little older than Finley so I think he had as much fun as the kids did!  I loved having him there so that we could let Jude run around... poor Jude always gets stuck in the stroller because I can't chase him around with Evi strapped to me! =)

We got home in time for naps and then Devin and I sat down to look at our budget.  Not fun, but we are at a good place financially and it was a chance for us to look at where our money is going.  Devin is in charge of paying our bills, balancing the checkbook, etc., but the truth is that I spend 90% of the money (minus bills, tithes, giving, etc.) and I am really out of the loop on how much there is to spend!  So we're starting a new system and we'll see how it goes.  I'm really excited about it actually because I know I tend to overspend at places like Wal-Mart, Target and Hobby Lobby and now that I am a little more in the know I can balance this spending with other places that I'd prefer to spend at such as the mall, etsy, etc.  It's worth a shot anyway!

That night we got take out from one of our favorites and watched FOOTBALL!  YAY!  Love that it is football season... FINALLY!

On Saturday morning, Finley and Devin made breakfast for us.  Afterwards, Finley and I went to the library to pick up a couple of movies that Disney has put in the vault... hate that stupid vault!  Then we went to get PEDICURES!!!!!  Finley had never gotten her nails done and it was sooooo fun!  I couldn't believe how well she did!!!!  She was so still and was mesmerized by them speaking Vietnamese.  When we walked in, she said "Mommy, they're speaking Spanish!"  HA!  Love seeing the world through her little eyes.  We got home and watched Beauty and the Beast.

That night, we watched the first OSU game of the season!  We let Finley stay up until halftime and when Devin asked her that night what was her favorite part of the day--- pedicures or football-- she said football!  Ha!  That's our girl!  I rushed around all week getting their cowboy gear ready.  Finley's pants turned out horribly... I totally cut the pattern wrong, but thankfully, they are still wearable.  I am in love with Evi's dress and it was the easiest to make.  Jude wasn't much of a model so thankfully I got this one picture before he ran off, but I thought his little shirt was cute and I'm definitely getting better at using my sewing machine to applique.

Sunday was church day!  After church, we tried to go to an Open House.  Yes, we're back in the house hunt.  We took a LONG and much needed break from house hunting, but we are back and our budget discussion on Friday was part of that.  Unfortunately, the house that we wanted to go look at had come on the market Saturday morning and was already off the market by the time the Open House rolled around.  Sooooo disappointing.  Obviously it wasn't the house for us, but I was really looking forward to seeing a house in our price range and imagining us there.  We looked at a few neighborhoods while we were out and then came back home. I tried taking a nap once the kids went down, but it didn't work.  Devin went dove hunting late afternoon so after the kids woke up, we ran a couple of errands and then came home and watched Cinderella before dinner and bedtime.  I laid on the couch and watched girly tv with Evi until he got home.

On Monday, Devin took Finley and Jude fishing at his grandparents' pond.  Evi and I choose to stay home.  Devin called me a partypooper, but driving over an hour there to sit out in the heat and nurse a baby while trying to keep Jude from jumping in the pond while Finley fished for thirty minutes and then get back in the car to drive an hour home just didn't sound like a lot of fun to me.  I am normally all about family time, but I admit it was nice to spend time at home with Evi and CLEAN the HOUSE!  Sad, but true!  Plus I like that Finley and Jude got some time with Daddy.

Finley caught a catfish and was bursting to tell me all about it!  So glad she had a great time!

We cooked out Monday night and then that was it!  Our long weekend came to an end!  Wish it would've lasted longer!
