Ready for Baby?

With less than 6 weeks to go before LbC makes his arrival, I've been thinking a lot about how ready we are for baby...

One thing is clear... our pets, Jenny and Pete, are DEFINITELY ready for baby.

They have been ridden.

They have been stickered.

They have been read to...

They have been hand-fed. I didn't actually capture her giving Jenny a bite, but trust me, she does get fed by Miss Finley.

They have been put to "night-night" with a blankie.

Finley even tried to put one of LbC's diapers on Pete the other day before I intervened!!!!  Obviously, Pete doesn't usually stick around long enough for me to get too many pictures of him... Jenny is way too good of a sport!

Still, they could not be more ready for Finley to have a little brother to pester.

As for Finley, I'm not sure if she is ready or not.  She really doesn't get the whole idea of little brother.  In the beginning, she thought it was fun to kiss my tummy, but now she pulls my shirt down immediately and says "Night-Night."

A few reasons I think she'll handle the addition of LbC well:
  • She LOVES babies and exclaims every time she sees one.
  • She has recently started dragging around a baby doll with her everywhere.
  • She is starting to play more independently again after a long stretch of wanting me nearby at all times.
  • She doesn't get jealous when I hold other babies.... other toddlers, yes, but babies, no.
  • She is very concerned when a baby is crying.  She is showing a genuine care and sensitivity.
A few reasons I don't think she's ready for the addition of LbC:
  • She is very concerned when a baby is crying!  Though this is a sign of sensitivity and a reason I think she is ready, it is also difficult for her to understand why the baby is crying and wants to make sure everything is okay.  I worry that when LbC is fussing and we aren't able to calm him that she is going to have a rough time.
  • She really wants to be in his crib and cradle which shows a bit of regression already.  I'm not sure she's ready to see a baby in a spot she so recently abandoned.
  • She covers all of her doll's heads with a blanket!  I am scared she is going to continually try to suffocate LbC in an effort to make sure he is warm! =)
As for Devin, I can't really speak to whether he is ready or not.  I think like me he feels it is still a bit surreal.  We were discussing how with Finley we were taking all these baby classes and so it seemed more real.  With this baby, the time just continues to fly and it seems too hard to believe that he will be here in such a short period of time.

As for me, I am ready in the following ways:
  • I can't wait to meet this little guy that I am already so in love with!!!!!!  To see who has been moving inside me.  To kiss his little cheeks and smell his little baby sweetness!!!!!
  • I can't wait to bend at the waist again.
  • I can't wait to be rid of heartburn.
  • I can't wait to be a mom again!
  • My hospital bag is packed.
  • His cradle and crib are ready.
  • I feel much more prepared for labor this time and am not nearly as afraid of it.
How I am not ready:
  • I love being pregnant despite the lack of waist and heartburn.
  • I will greatly miss him moving inside me.
  • I will also miss knowing that he is fully protected inside me and that this is the only time I can completely protect him.
  • His hospital bag has not been packed.
  • His room isn't done and until it is, I will feel a bit out of sorts.
  • But most of all I'm not ready because I am not ready to love two kids as much as they deserve to be loved.  I am completely ready to love them as much as I possibly can... as much as any mom ever could, but I am not ready to love them as much as they should be loved by all the people who aren't here to love them or who are here, but have made it obvious that they don't love my kids as much as I think they should.  Sure I'm overprotective, but I've always said that it is in times of joy that you find out who your real friends and family are because it is then that you see who is selfless enough to be happy for you, to share in your joy, to love in spite of what is going on in their own lives.  These kids deserve so much more than they will get.  I know that God is enough.  That He is able to fill the spaces that I can't.  I know my weakness is ultimately His strength, but it is difficult to just know that these two aren't as loved as they should be.  It feels selfish to be having kids who deserve what so many other kids have... lots of love from family and friends.  And yes, I realize that my kids have more love than lots of kids around the world... It doesn't change how I feel or the fact that those kids deserve more love as well.  I think I'm just tired of trying to hide my feelings away and pretend that things are okay when they're not.  Tired of pretending that I don't see those who are just going through the motions of being happy for us or who are doing just the bare minimum so that they can say they did something.  My kids deserve more and maybe all moms feel this way, but it's what keeps me up at night and sends me into tears when I allow myself to go there.  I just wish more for them.

LbC: Weeks 32 & 33

(Week 34 will be up on Wednesday... I've been so behind!)
Little Baby C {LbC} Pregnancy: Inch by Inch from 4 to 40 {weeks}
Trimester:
How far along: 32 weeks
Size of baby: 3.75 pounds and 16.7 inches long (size of a jicama)
What is going on with baby: he has toenails, fingernails, and real hair!  He’s still plumping up.
Total weight gain: +13   Even with all the holiday eating, I’m still right at 13 pounds.  Fortunately, I weighed 16 pounds more at my doctor’s appointment this week since it was a late afternoon appointment.  I did talk to my doctor though about the fact that I’m not weighing as much at home and she reassured me that everything is fine!  She said he is measuring perfectly and that she is truly not worried at all about my low weight gain.
Wedding Rings: Both still fit
Feet: I can still see them!  I do have to turn my head just right though!
Belly Button: Half in/ half out
Stretch Marks: Not that I can tell.
Linea Negra: Not yet.
Maternity clothes: YES!
Food cravings: Throughout this pregnancy, Wendy’s spicy chicken nuggets have been one of my favorites.
Labor Signs: Pressure and a few contractions!
Sleep: Better this week!
Best Moment This Week: Talking to my doctor and being reassured that he is growing even if I’m not growing as much as I would like to!  Opening LbC’s Christmas presents and imagining him with us next year!
Looking Forward To: Washing and organizing his clothes now that his room is more set up!

My Prayer This Week:
Dear Lord,
I pray for my baby's skin. Help it to grow soft and beautiful, the way a baby's skin is supposed to be. And because You said to ask for what we want, I'm asking You to protect my baby from getting any bad skin disorders. Protect him from getting infant acne, cradle cap, jaundice and diaper rashes. Lord, I know those are common skin conditions, but based on Your Word that tells us You care for each and every detail of our lives, I pray that You will protect my baby from those. Give me wisdom and knowledge to do the right things to protect his skin. Help me know which foods and products to avoid so that I can help my child. Help me be a good parent and give him all the care he needs.
But Lord, even more importantly, I pray that You will fill my child's heart and life with joy. Give him the joy of the Lord and help him to find inner strength as a result of that joy. In all situations, let the joy of the Lord be in his heart. And Lord, help me to be a role model of joy in my home. Help me bring a spirit of joy into our house.
I love You Lord, because you are good, and because You are all-powerful and ever present. Thank You for caring about every detail of my life. I know You are never too busy to hear my prayers, because you are GOD, and You can do all things. You delight in giving good gifts to Your children. You care for us, and I receive that.
In Jesus' name. Amen.

Little Baby C {LbC} Pregnancy: Inch by Inch from 4 to 40 {weeks}
Trimester:
How far along: 33 weeks
Size of baby: little over 4 pounds and 17 inches long (size of a pineapple)
What is going on with baby: He is losing the wrinkled alien look and his skull is hardening.
Total weight gain: +14  I’ve given up gaining the 25 pounds I was hoping to gain…. Now I’m just hoping to gain 20.
Wedding Rings: Both still fit
Feet: I can still see them!  I do have to turn my head just right though!
Belly Button: Half in/ half out… It’s sticking out more and more!!!!  Devin thinks it is cute, but I don’t! =)
Stretch Marks: Not that I can tell.
Linea Negra: Not yet.
Maternity clothes: YES!
Food cravings: Christmas spoiled me… I have been craving lots of sweets.
Labor Signs: Pressure and contractions!  I was up one night having contractions for almost 8 hours.  They were coming every 5 minutes for a short period of time, but never increased in intensity.  I finally got them to stop right before I was going to call the doctor.  I was super worried!
Sleep: Can’t complain… Other than the night of contractions, I’ve been sleeping well.
Best Moment This Week: Finishing the crib skirt!
Looking Forward To: Finishing the rest of the bedding and getting more of the finishing touches done in the room.
My Prayer This Week:
Dear Lord, I pray that my baby will find his passion and purpose in life. Lead and guide him right from the start, and reveal Your will to him at an early age. Make Your will clear, and help him never to veer off course from the plan You have for his life.
Help my child obey Your Word and grow in favor with You and with people, so that he might prosper and be blessed.
Give him courage in the face of difficulty. Be his strength and strong tower, as it says in Proverbs 18:10. I pray that my child keeps his focus on You and is fearless, because You are with him.
Grant my child contentment, so that he has a happy heart.
And Lord, I thank You so much for the blessing of being pregnant with this child. Your Word says every good and perfect gift comes from above. I acknowledge You as the giver of life. I am looking forward to meeting this baby You have given me. I will praise You for as long as I live.
In Jesus' name. Amen.
