I'm so far behind on posting, but we did have a great weekend. For once, we seemed to have the perfect ratio of projects and fun planned. Last Memorial Day, we painted the exterior of our house and what a project that was! Of course, I was pregnant so Devin and his family did most of the work, but we were exhausted by the time the weekend was over and we still hadn't finished painting the house!
Anyway, back to this year... Devin took off Friday afternoon which was a nice treat. Finley was taking a nap when he got home so we hung pictures over the loveseat. I'm still playing with which pictures are going in the frames, but I loved how it made our whole living room come together. And better yet, I found these frames (with mattes) on sale at Target for $4 each so it made a great impact for less than $40. Oh, how I love a good deal.
Once Finley woke up, we went to TLC to buy flowers for our flower beds. Devin and I are not very good at landscaping. We are determined to start taking pictures of flower beds that we like and then copy them as much as possible. Somehow we either plant the flowers too early or are left with no selection once we actually do buy flowers. And with the lovely Oklahoma weather, it's hard to know what we will have to work with... for instance, our mums are in full bloom right now even though they are fall plants so we had to take their colors into consideration when picking new flowers. After TLC, we came home and prepped food for Saturday. I love to cook and find it especially fun when Devin is helping me.
We slept in a bit on Saturday and then I finished cleaning the house and food preparation while Devin worked outside. Amy, Scott, and Liberty came over that evening which was a lot of fun. Amy's pregnant tummy is so super cute! And Finley was fascinated with Liberty. She is such a sweet little girl!
On Sunday, we went to church and left Finley in the nursery for the first time. Church now falls right as Finley's morning nap is ending and her 11:00 feeding is beginning so it has made the service a bit chaotic for us. This was a great Sunday for us to leave her in the nursery since most of the regulars were away for the long weekend. Before we could even pick her up afterwards, we had one of the nursery workers exclaim over how sweet she is and what a great time they had with her. Once we made it to her actual room, the other two ladies went on and on about how much she talked and how happy she was for them. She only fussed when she saw her bottle which is so typical! Though Devin and I often marvel over our sweet-natured child, it is always nice to hear confirmation from those who deal with children daily! After church, we went to lunch at Grandma and PaPa's house with Dillon, Amy, and the boys so it was great to see them for a little while. The rest of the day we took pretty easy... a little shopping, a nap, etc.
On Monday, Devin and I planted flowers and Devin finished painting our front door black. It looks great and I'm happy with our decision to change colors. I always wanted a red door, but our door was a weird orangey red that was not cute at all. I decided black would look cleaner and that I could use more wreaths, etc. on a black door than on a red one. After Finley's afternoon nap, we went swimming! Beth had warned me that the water is still usually too cold on Memorial Day, but fortunately, there is a wading pool at the neighborhood pool of Devin's parents and it was a perfect temperature! Finley absolutely LOVED it. I had bought her a turtle blowup toy that helped hold her weight and shade her from the sun. It was a great purchase because even though it was still a bit big for her, she could shift all her weight to one foot and then paddle herself around the wading pool. It also had a place in the front that collected water and she quickly learned how to splash! I was really impressed at how quickly she figured out how to move in the water. She did suffer her first pool injury though. When we pulled her out of the pool, Devin's dad and I realized that her pinky toe was bleeding and later I discovered that she had scraped the bottom of all her toes on her paddle foot. She didn't seem to mind though! (Here's a picture of her bleeding foot.... notice how wrinkly it is too! =) I'll post more pool pictures tomorrow... there's too many for this incredibly long post!)
