My conversation with Finley after naptime....
Me: "Finley, do you know how much I love you?"
Finley: "mmmmmmmm"
Me: "Finley, do you love Momma?"
Finley: "No. Finley loves Jude."
Me: "Did you know that you can love more than one person at a time?"
Finley: mumble, mumble
Me: "Finley, do you love Daddy?"
Finley: "No. Finley loves Jude."
Me: "Finley, do you love Jesus?"
Finley: "Yes! Finley love Jude and Jesus!"
Too funny!

She Left Proof-- Mother's Day Edition
Mother's Day continues to be somewhat bittersweet to me. It is such a joy to be a mom and though I still sometimes can't comprehend that I am one, I rejoice in celebrating the fact that it is true. On the other hand, this is a holiday steeped in a tradition of sadness and grief. And I know I'm not alone. God has made that really clear to me lately. There are so many of us who have a difficult time fully celebrating today.... I may not have a lot of friends who have lost their mom like I have, but I have friends who aren't moms that would like to be, friends who don't particularly get along with their moms, friends who don't have the relationship with their children that they dreamed of, and friends who have lost children that they will never forget.
I am so thankful that there is so much sweet to go with the sadness. And I wouldn't have anything to celebrate without my two munchkins. They are the ones that I am truly grateful for!
Thank you, Finley, for making me a mom so unexpectantly. Thank you for easing me into it and for your "willingness" (not like you had a choice!) to be my "experiment" in all things parenthood related. Thank you for letting me stick huge bows on your head and for reminding me that stubborness is inherited. Thank you for the hugs when I least expect them and the "Mommy, you're pretty!" when I feel anything but. Thank you for the laughs when I am sad, for singing when I thought I craved quiet, for kissing my boo-boos when it's me that should be kissing yours, and for calling "Toodles" when you think all I need is a Mousketool to make everything right again. Thank you for your sweet praying hands at night and for your amazing ability to love me when I've failed you time and time again. But most of all thank you for not repeating everything I say! I love you so much and hearing you wish me a "Happy Mother's Day!" with your sweet voice was more than I deserve.
To Jude, thank you for making me a mom a second time... for being an easy baby despite the fact that your sister was one too. Thank you for sleeping through the night at 7 weeks because you know that I am a better human because of it. Thank you for letting me kiss you a zillion and one times a day, for falling asleep on my chest, for letting me be ultra-possessive of you, and for giving me your first smiles and laughs. Thank you for only peeing on me twice so far and for being the little boy I never imagined myself with, but now can't imagine myself without. Thank you for needing me and keeping me guessing on who you are going to become. Thank you for enjoying car rides, swaddle blankets, and binkies. Thank you for enduring the fact that I call you "Beautiful" when I know you are really "Handsome"! Thank you for showing me that motherhood can be all I dreamed of and more.
