Yesterday, Finley started her summer MDO program.... She will actually be going on Monday's during June and July, but thankfully as I was trying to get her stuff together, I realized that they were making up Memorial Day on Thursday of this week so I packed all of her stuff and took her to her first day.
I got in the car after dropping her off and just cried. I don't think I even cried after leaving her in the Fall, but somehow it was more difficult this time. Probably because I don't know anyone at this MDO and even though it came highly recommended, I just felt like I was leaving her with strangers. I also hate bouncing her around and though I am sure on some level it is great to raise an adaptable baby, I also like the security of having her in the same environment. Hopefully, we will be able to stay with her Fall MDO for the long haul.
One of the items that we had to buy for this MDO was a nap mat for Finley. Devin and I both laughed about this because Finley has never been good at taking naps at MDO much less expecting her to take a nap in an open area on a mat.
All day I was expecting to get a call saying "Your daughter has been demoted to the baby class because she wasn't able to sleep on a mat like the other kids her age." Though seriously, a 1 1/2 year old sleeping outside a crib? That seems just a bit crazy to me!
So the first question I asked when I picked her up was how nap time went and believe it or not, our little girl took a nap on a mat!!!!!! I am so proud! I am sure my shock was obvious because her two teachers said that even though it took her awhile to fall asleep that she did just great on the mat and that she did indeed take a nap on it. They obviously didn't understand my shock, but could tell I needed the reassurance!
I called Devin as soon as we were out the door to tell him and he was just as shocked as I was and then we both lamented over how big our girl is getting!!!! This is a milestone I just wasn't ready for so soon! Even though we have no plans to move Finley out of her crib in the foreseeable future, it's just crazy to think she doesn't need it as much as we need her to need it. =)
In other big girl news, Finley has started wearing headbands again. Personally, I think they look just adorable on her. She has actually started requesting particular hair accessories which makes this hair-accessory-loving momma almost as proud as the fact that she can sleep on a mat!
