Finley's Firsts: The Dentist

Today I took Finley for her first dental appointment!  I was a little nervous about it because she is so squirmy and I wasn't sure at all about her sitting still for it.  I love our dental hygentist though and she has a little boy that is Finley's age so I knew it would be fine.

Well, we got there and Tiffany had a funeral come up so we ended up with a temp as our dental hygentist.  I was instantly disappointed, but thankfully, this temp was AMAZING!  Even though I am still sad it wasn't Tiffany, I am so thankful that her fill-in was as nice as she is!

Finley did GREAT!  I was so impressed.  Jude also did well which was another answer to prayer!  He was pretty intriqued with what was going on so he hardly fussed at all.

Overall, everything looked good.  Dr. C said she didn't have any cavities and that her teeth looked good.  She does have a cross bite on one side and it is something that we will have to correct early on if it continues to be a problem when her permanent teeth come in.

As soon as we got home, Finley ran upstairs with her little toothbrush packet and dumped it all out on her bathroom sink.  She then insisted on brushing her teeth again and using the mouthwash!  It was soooooo cute!

 I am so glad her first experience was such a positive one!  Can't believe my girl is old enough to be going to the dentist!!!!!

Our Tiny Dancer

Last night, we started a whole new phase of life.  DANCE!  I can't believe Finley is old enough for actual organized activities!  Devin and I were pretty unsure how this would go, but she absolutely loved it!

I was most nervous about getting her hair into a bun.  When Beth kept her this summer, she said she had no problem pulling her hair back into a ponytail so I knew it could be done, but I just hadn't ever tried.  Fortunately, it wasn't too difficult.  It looked super-cute at first, but it sort of fell as time went on... still cute, but I loved when it was high up on her head!

Kristin and I signed up our girls to take together so that we could chat while we waited.  Grace and Finley were fast friends and so cute together!

Everytime we peeked in at them, Finley was doing exactly what she was supposed to.  When we got home, she wanted to take a few more pictures.

She showed me "Big Pizza" (arms in first position) and "Chocolate Cake" (arms in second position) and then did a little jump from second to first position. I thought it was soooo cute!

When we were getting her into bed, I asked her what she wanted to do the next day and she said "Go back to dance class!"

I don't want to get tooooo excited, but I would obviously love to have a little dancer since I enjoyed it so much myself.  It'll be fun to see what she decides she's passionate about, but I think dance is going to be the perfect first activity for her!

She is seriously the cutest little ballerina and tap dancer I've ever seen!

Finley's Firsts

So I went in to get Finley up this morning and as soon as I walk in she says "Mama mess!"  I am confused wondering if we left something in her bed for her to make a mess with and then I see it.

Throw up.

Ugh!

Finley has never thrown up before so it took me a few minutes to compose myself.  I doubt anyone likes to clean up throw up, but this is a task that I have been dreading since becoming a mom.  Fortunately, it wasn't too bad since it was just on her sheets and I could just sort of ball up them up and throw them in the washer.  I was so thankful!  I am glad I was initiated slowly into the throw up clean up crew! =)

What was funny is yesterday I told Devin that Finley was just acting "funny" and that I couldn't quite figure it out.  She was fussier than normal and was just "off" and he said "Well, maybe she has a bug." Apparently, he was right.

So we cancelled two play groups today and are staying home.  She seems happy and like her usual self, but I want to watch her closely and make sure she is better.

Not the most exciting "First" to record, but a "First" none-the-less!

Finley's First Ouch Report

When I picked Finley up from MDO yesterday, Miss Pam was waving a white sheet of paper and saying "We had an accident today."  I immediately panicked thinking that Finley had hit or kicked someone. 

Finley has been hitting when she thinks she is tickling and has been kicking a lot when I change her diaper so I had reason to panic.  No one wants their kid to be the "hitter, kicker, or biter!" 


So sadly I was a bit relieved when Miss Pam said that she had been leaning back in her chair and lost her balance, hitting her cheek on the table.  It wasn't that I wasn't worried about Finley, but I was just thankful that another child hadn't been involved.  Miss Pam assured me that it happened after pictures and that all the kids are leaning back in their chairs and it's something they all struggle with in the beginning of the year.  In my head, I laughed even harder because me the "picture queen"wasn't even worried about her class pictures!

I tried to take a picture of the mark on her cheek, but it doesn't even really show up.  There's just a slight mark on her left cheek...  They put ice on it right away and comforted her and she doesn't seem the least bit concerned about her "Ouchie!"

Heartbreaker?

Our Little Heartbreaker

Something happened today that reminded me that I REALLY needed to blog about something that happened almost two months ago!


Devin and I were on our way to pick Finley up from the church nursery when the Assistant Director of the Children's Program stopped us and said...


"Finley has a boyfriend!!!!!"


Oh, dear.


She continued to tell us that Josiah had been totally putting the moves on our little girl during circle time and that Finley's teachers would tell us the whole story.  


Well, the whole story did come out little by little from both Finley's teachers and Josiah's parents (who we know and are now in Sunday school with...).


Apparently, during the Bible Story, they sit the kids in a circle and Josiah sat right next to Finley.  Well, as the story progressed, Josiah would look at Finley and then inch a little towards her... look at Finley and inch even a bit closer... until he finally made it right next to her and then he


KISSED her!!!!!!!!!!!!!


Finley received her first official kiss at the tender age of 21 months and 2 days.  Oh, my word! 


Devin and I would have paid our savings to see this occur.  It just cracks us both up.


Well, in similar fashion, today, I picked Finley up from BSF and her teacher said "Little Cole here has quite the crush on your Finley!"  I laughed and said "Well, he seems pretty sweet so I guess that's not a bad thing." And her teacher said that during snack time, Cole kept trying to give Finley his crackers and she kept looking at him like "I already have crackers... What are you doing?" Ha, ha!  But apparently, Cole wanted to sit by Finley at every opportunity and just continued to try to win her affection.


This stage is so much fun!  All of sudden, Finley is at the age to have friends and to prefer to play with certain kids and it just amazes me!  She is so young and yet her social development is already occurring. It's just crazy!!!!

Finley's First Procedure...

So for awhile now, Finley's pediatrician has been telling us that she has really small ear canals. Apparently, this causes a lot of wax build-up and Dr. K prepared us that at some point he would need to refer us to an ENT to have them look at them.

Well, a few weeks ago, I took Finley in because she had a little bug and Dr. K said he couldn't see anything past the wax in her ears and that it was time to consult the ENT.

So yesterday, with binky, snacks, and Lola in hand, we headed to see Dr. R. I wasn't sure what to expect, but the nurse came in and explained the whole procedure and then the doctor came in and reassured me some more! Both were super nice which put me at ease.

Because the exam room was really small, I wasn't allowed in with her which was both a blessing and a curse. I was a little thankful to not have to see Finley look at me with those "Momma, why are you letting them do this to me?" eyes, but at the same time, I hated not being able to comfort her. They did let Lola go with her which was helpful... Lola's ears checked out fine so that was good. ;)

The procedure was only about 5 minutes long, but I could hear her crying and fussing in the exam room which only caused me to cry and panic. Of course, Finley came back into the room smiling and I instantly felt all better.

The doctor said her ear canals are super delicate and that there isn't a way to prevent the wax build-up, but that hopefully as she gets bigger, they will grow as well and that we won't have to continue these procedures.

Afterwards, I took Finley for a slush at Sonic. I was too worried about her tummy to let her drink more than 1/4 of it, but she sure enjoyed it and I was happy to see my little one smiling and enjoying life again!

Devin and I are anxious to see if this procedure changes her speech at all. We already feel like she speaks fairly articulately and we've never noticed any hearing issues, but it would seem that ears that clogged with wax would impair her hearing at least a bit!

Finley's First Post

As I was trying to blog tonight, Finley really wanted to type on the computer so I decided to let her write her very first post!!!!!  Here it is:

Growing Throwing Up

So this is not the most exciting post, but in an effort to capture all of motherhood and all of Finley's firsts, here goes!

Finley slept until 8:30 this morning which was wonderful since we didn't have to be up and around.  I went in to get her and immediately was overwhelmed by the smell of spoiled milk.  I was confused for a minute and then thought maybe one of her sippy cups had been left in her room despite the fact that she doesn't really use sippy cups in her room.

Well, after a quick scan around the room, I suddenly realized that my poor little one had thrown up in the middle of the night.  I had checked on her several times because she was coughing, but she seemed to be sleeping fine.  Since she is heavily teething right now, she has a very runny nose and it's effecting her breathing so obviously, it must have caused the throw up in the middle of the night.

I am thankful that she isn't suffering from a stomach bug and that clean up was actually pretty easy.  Nothing a quick bath and a load of laundry couldn't rectify.

So far she seems to be feeling better.  She was a bit cuddly this morning so we stayed on the couch and watched a few cartoons which is really unusual for us, but I totally enjoyed the snuggles.

I must say that even this little bout of sickness makes it impossible for me to imagine the difficulty in having a truly ill child.  It breaks my heart to see Finley struggling to eat and breathe and not being her usual active self.  I am so thankful that she has been so healthy!

So Finley is working on a new trick that's super cute, but I haven't been able to capture it on video yet.  In the meantime, I was able to capture her tried-and-true tricks today and since I'm super behind on blogging about our ski trip, I thought I would post a video instead! (Please ignore my middle school cheerleading tactics of getting her to clap at the end...)
