All About Finley

Finley is now 16 months old and if this is any indication to how enjoyable Finley is at this age, Devin recently told me that he would love it if we had another girl and that he would prefer me to have a 15 month old since he fears a newborn will seem awfully boring in comparison.  Ha!  I have no desire to give birth to a 21 pounder and I'm thinking we might need a little boredom when we finally decide to add Baby #2 to the family!  We are obviously completely in love with our little girl and are totally enjoying this stage of her life.

She weighs 21 pounds 6 ounces and is around 31 inches tall.  Her percentiles continue to stay the same!

She knows to blow on food when it's hot.  The other day, I put her waffle in front of her and she just started blowing on it.  So funny!

She gets REALLY happy when you talk jibberish back to her.  Clearly, she is longing to be understood because she just breaks out in a huge grin that seems to say "You're speaking my language!!!!!"

She can now reach up and pull the cabinets open in our pantry.  Oh, dear!

Devin has started teaching her how to make the Indian sound... at first, she'd just start pat her mouth and expecting it to make the "Wha Wha Wha" sound, but she has finally started to figure it out and it's pretty cute!

She is starting to be my little helper.  When I am moving laundry from the washer to the dryer, she likes to help me push the wet clothes into the dryer or to move the dry clothes into the hamper.

She loves to eat bananas by herself... She is actually pretty good at eating it even with the peel on.

I've managed to add an "er" to just about everything pertaining to Finley's daily life.  Devin is understandably annoyed.  There's her binkers, her clappers, her jammers, her kissers, her tummers... she loves her nanners (bananas).  She takes nighters and nappers and most of the time I call her Finners.

She LOVES washing her hands.  If her hands even get a little wet from her sippy cup, she'll start rubbing them together.  It's adorable.

She is really tough.  She never cries for long after she falls or get shots.  Last week, we had our first "major" injury.  She was pulling up on my chair and the next thing I know she's bawling and blood is pouring out her mouth.  Admittedly, I was pretty scared, but fortunately, she had just bitten her lip and hadn't lost a tooth or something worse!  She really took it like a pro.

She can drink out of a straw now!  We tried straws shortly before she turned one without any success and hadn't really tried them since, but when we were at dinner this past weekend, we gave her a cup with a straw and she had so much fun!  She drank a ton just because she loved the straw so much!

She's wearing mostly 12-18 months now.  Like last month, she continues to have a few 6-12 month outfits that fit and are getting a lot of wear.  She's also in size 3 diaper.

She is enjoying books more and more.  She loves to pretend to read.  She'll open a book and start jabbering and then flip the page and jabber some more.

She also really loves to brush her teeth.  At the end of the day, when I'm really tired and don't feel like fighting to get her into her two pairs of pj's, I'll give her the toothbrush and it's amazing how still she'll sit for me.  It makes our bedtime routine much more manageable!

When she's teething, her head gets really big!  It's so fun to look back at pictures and clearly tell that her face is swollen from teething.

Speaking of teething, she is teething right now!  And I think we may be to the end of teething for awhile.  Her top molars are almost completely in and her left incisor is barely sticking out and the right one is about to break skin.  On bottom, she has both teeth coming up on either side of her 4 middle ones.  Her other molars will come in probably around 2 so I'm hoping this is our last bout with teething for awhile!

Here she is with her two favorites... Daddy and the cell phone.  This is how she always holds it up to her ear!

She is starting to scare us to death on the stairs now that she can walk.  The majority of the time she still crawls up and down them like she's been doing for months which is great, but every once in awhile she takes off like she's going to walk down them and has actually taken a small tumble so we're being very careful with her these days.

We're starting to let her feed herself more with a spoon.  She loves the baby yogurt that is nice and thick and stays on the spoon so we've been experimenting with letting her feed more and more of it to herself. It's a messy process, but obviously, she'll get much better with time and lots of practice.

This is one of her favorite toys!  She finally figured out how to get the panda (in yellow) to pop up.  She's still working on how to get the rest of them to pop up, but of course, has always loved putting them back down.  She tends to have a really gentle touch with most things which is why this toy hasn't been easy for her.  She lightly hits each button and hasn't figured out how to use more force to get them to work.

She has started pushing her arms and legs through her clothes when we are dressing her and that's a huge help!

She is still in size 3 shoe which has become problematic now that she is walking.  I want to buy her some really nice shoes, but a lot of the "real" shoes don't come in size 3 since that is more of a crib shoe size.  I bought her some Robeez the other day and they are a bit big, but not too bad.  I think she needs at least 2-3 more pairs of shoes, but in order to find them in her size, they cost more than I would like considering her feet may have a major growth spurt at any moment.

Food is always a big topic with Finley and right now she seems to be slowing down a bit on her food intake.  She continues to be really picky.  She absolutely loves raisins (a full post on this coming soon) and mandrin oranges.  She took a break from bananas, but is back to liking them.  She also likes oyster crackers, fishies, yogurt, and pretzels.  Peanut butter crackers, PB&H sandwiches, and string cheese are iffy these days.  I'm desperate for new things to feed her, but she refuses just about everything.

Her consistent routine is starting to reappear.  She's been sleeping until 8 more and more and still taking two naps a day.  Somedays she'll only take one nap and go to bed earlier, but thankfully, she's broken her 7 a.m. habit.  Thank goodness for Baby Whisperer!  Once again, she has saved the day!

She hates her highchair right now.  She would much rather eat while pushing her shopping cart around the kitchen.  She's definitely starting the stage where she's more interested in playing than eating.

Speaking of her shopping cart, she loves to push it around the loop in our kitchen/dining room.  She has a perfect little path and does laps several times a day.  She is really into pushing these days and as can be seen in this picture, she now prefers to push her big pink car instead of getting in and out of it!

She now knows where her ears, feet, and sometimes her tongue are along with her head and tummy.

She started giving open mouth kisses this past month.  Last week she was cracking us up because if Devin asked her for a kiss she would come at him with an open mouth, but if I asked for a kiss, she would blow them to me.  It was so funny because she would obviously only give Daddy open mouth kisses and not blown ones and would only give Mommy blown kisses and not open mouth ones.

She and Jenny are still get buds.  Finley has figured out how to pet nicely and Jenny has long since figured out how to clean up after Finley!

She has learned to shake her head "no", but hasn't figured out how to nod "yes."  She clearly realizes when we are asking her a question, but she always responds with a "no" even when she clearly means "yes."

And the wait is over.... She has officially become a WALKER!  Today, on her 16 month birthday, she decided that she preferred walking on her feet rather than her knees and has repeatedly pulled up to her feet after falling in order to walk.  Devin and I couldn't be more proud of her!

And as always, she is truly the most wonderful, beautiful toddler ever and I love her more than I can stand!

YAY for walking!!!!! And I love that you add "er" to the end of words...most people add "y". And I would prefer her not to call me aunt bethy. :-/ And I love that the toy I gave her is her favorite (even if its only for a week). And, I agree with Devin that this is the BEST age EVER...from here until about age 7 is the absolute BEST!!!! Not that all the other ages are bad, but its just my favorite. BUT...I agree with you that NO ONE wants to have a 20 pound"er"!!!! haha! Love you!!!
