Valentine's Day 2010

Being a mother to a little girl on Valentine's Day means that I now have to share my Valentine with her...

And I wouldn't have it any other way.

Even at this point in Finley's life, Devin is making every effort to demonstrate to her how she should be treated by her future husband and it's so glorious to watch!  I am so thankful that I am married to someone who is so willing to model for her how she ought to be treated... not just in the way that he treats her, but also in the way that he treats me.

Whoever Finley marries will have a lot to live up to...

(Splenda is Devin's nickname for me....)

And I wouldn't have that any other way either.

Devin and I agreed long ago to not buy each other gifts for Valentine's Day or anniversaries.  We just feel there are better ways to show each other love than with sweaters and candy.  Not that there is anything wrong with that, but we try to spend quality, uninterrupted time together instead.  This year, Devin surprised me with tickets to see the ballet Giselle.  I have always wanted to see it and since it hadn't been performed here in 20 years, I was so glad that we were able to go.

Of course, we don't always go out for Valentine's Day...  In fact, our first year of marriage Devin cooked dinner for me on Valentine's Day and we have since made it a tradition regardless of whether we do anything else, he always cooks for me.

(Rachael Ray's flank steak, yummy hasbrown casserole, and HOMEMADE biscuits!)

This year, he had a helper.

Because everywhere...

that Daddy went...

Finley was...

sure to go!

Even though we don't buy each other gifts...

we did get Finley a few things.

She loved her Tadoodle crayons, but wasn't too interested in her new pajamas....

which Devin kept saying (rather sadly) looked too much like big girl pajamas! They're a little large, but I think they are DARLING! We also ordered her some books, but they haven't come in yet. =(

On Valentine's Day (and really any day) I find myself blown away by the truth of I John 4:19:
"We love because He first loved us."
I am so thankful to love people as sweet as my husband and baby!
