Memory Lane

Today I took a trip down Memory Lane only it wasn't my Memory Lane, but that of my mother's.

Last week when I was organizing some things in a closet I came across my mom's student teaching journal.  When I had found it five years ago, I had googled her home address listed in the front with no luck, but when I decided to google it a few days ago, I found that the address still exists and the picture of the house seemed to be exactly what I would have expected my mom to have lived in back then.

So today, I drove by the house that my mom used to live in almost 37 years ago.  I stopped and imagined her there.  Thinking of her grading papers, preparing lesson plans, cooking, and cleaning in this little house.  This is most likely the house she brought my brother home from the hospital to and that alone gives me reason to believe that she was probably rather attached to this home.

The house is for sale... in fact, I believe it's been foreclosed on and everything inside me wanted to call up Devin and ask if we could buy it regardless of the fact that it is run down and in a not-so-nice neighborhood.  It's crazy how much I desire something of my mom's to hold on to even all these years later.

But instead I will just drive by it as often as I can.  Thankful that I have somewhere to go when I miss her like crazy and want something concrete to look at.

And it will be ever so easy to drive by it... after all it is on the very same street that Amy and Dillon live on.  (Thankfully they live in a much nicer neighborhood.)  What a blessing it is to always have the perfect excuse to pay a visit to Memory Lane.

That is so great! I am so proud of you for making yourself remember things about your mom! I love you!!! I'm assuming that the street NAME is the same as Amy and Dillons??? I figured the house was around Tulsa, but could be wrong. So glad you have something that is hers!!!! If I had all the money in the world, I would buy it for you in a heartbeat!

No it really is on the same street as Amy and Dillon's house here in OKC. It's just crazy how much nicer the neighborhoods can be on the other side of Classen! =)

Wow, what a great memory to share with us and so intimate as well. Thank you for writing about this. I'm sure your mom would've been exceptionally proud of the woman, wife and mother you have become. You are a wonderful mother, you know that, right?
