Finley is now officially 21 months old! I have been dreading writing this All About Finley post because I know I'm going to forget about a zillion things that she is doing these days. I feel like I'm constantly trying to keep up with her new words, preferences, funnies, etc. These are the posts though that I go back to again and again so I am determined to keep them up even if they aren't always entirely complete!
1. Size Matters: Finley is right around 25 pounds and 34 inches tall. I can't get an accurate height measurement, but she is able to reach all kinds of things that she used to not be able to so I'm pretty sure she has grown a bit! She is still in size 4 diapers and is wearing mostly 12-18 month clothes. I've started buying 18-24 month clothes and some fit fine and others are still quite big. She's still in size 5 shoe, but I'm going to try a size 6 the next time we go shoe shopping.
2. Food Junkie: Finley is enjoying grapes and pears this month. I tried pears awhile back and she absolutely refused them, but loves them now. She really likes most all fruit and tends to eat it first. We had a bit of a breakthrough with meat this month... I've made her a couple of grilled ham and cheese sandwiches and she's actually eaten them!!!!! Of course I sent one with her to MDO and she didn't eat a single bite of it... UGH! I've also started buying her the puff sticks again and she just loves them. They are great errand food because they aren't too messy and keep her occupied. Lastly, she loves saltine crackers!
3. Fun Facts to Know and Tell:
- She is trying to jump. She is getting close to being able to, but can't quite get both feet off the ground. It's pretty adorable to watch her try though!
- She loves doing summersaults and though usually I help her, the other day she did one by herself!
- She can now climb into the chairs in the playroom by herself as well as the dining room chairs.
- When you ask her to twirl or spin, she will. She is still quite the dancer and I really need to get a video of it because it is so cute!
- She has started "Hi"-ing everyone again when we are out and about... especially other kids. I used to love when she did this at 10 months so I'm excited that it's back.
- She thinks the ice maker sounds like the garage door going up so whenever the ice machine makes noise, Finley says "Dada" thinking Dada is coming home.
- We've had a few successful potty trips though we've had a lot more unsuccessful ones! =) Doesn't she look so cute in her training pants?
- She can sing the ABC's... kind of. If the ABC song is playing on one of her toys, she sings along pretty well until about K and then it goes downhill, but it's still impressive.
- She is very into counting. She even holds her fingers up as she does it. Most of the time, she says "1, 2, 1, 2, 4, 5, 1..." She never says 3.
- She loves Target, but maybe that's because the produce and bakery section usually has a "treat" for her...
- She is obsessed with the idea of "on" and "off." She is really beginning to grasp the concept and wants the lights turned on when we go into the room and off when we leave. She also uses on and off to talk about lids and clothes so she is really getting it!
- She is also figuring out the word "Hot" and applies it to the stove, water, and being outside. I don't know why, but I'm super proud of the fact that she understands that it is used for different scenarios. She hasn't quite figured out that food that is hot cools off though because several times she won't eat something that she saw was hot because she thinks it is still hot.
- When she puts her binkies in her crib after naptime, she insists on putting them over the top rail instead of between the slats which is much more on her level.
- She takes after me when it comes to bug bites. Mosquitos love her and leave huge whelps on her.
4. Toys 'R Us: While we were in NYC, Devin and I went to FAO Schwartz and Devin picked out a puzzle for her. When we got home, we found that Finley had been loving puzzles at Grandma and PaPa's house and they have been quite a hit this past month. She LOVES them and is actually really good at putting them together. I had no idea that she would catch onto puzzles so quickly, but I went out and bought her several more.
She's been playing with her musical toys more and more. I think she likes the songs they play and that they light up. We've continued to color a lot as well....
And she LOVES wearing this backpack...

5. Can't Live Without's: She loves shoes these days. She wakes up and wants me to open her closet so she can pick out a pair to wear. It's so funny! She still loves books of course and has been into her Lola more and more. I decided to let her take Lola to MDO with her in the hopes that she would take better naps and it worked great the first week, but not at all the second week. Still, she definitely loves toting Lola around when I let her. She is also thoroughly addicted to her binkies. She was doing so well about leaving them in the crib, but now she wants to sneak them when we aren't looking. She also loves, loves, loves her sunglasses!!!!
6. Can't Live With's: Flies! She hates them! But who doesn't? They seem to always be in the house these days and love to land on her while she's eating. She always says "Ow!" Of course, she hates it even more when I swat them with the fly swatter. She throws a big fit. I hate that it scares her, but I can't stand having the flies buzz around all day. =)
7. Trick or Treat: Her vocab is really starting to pick up these days. I know I'll never remember all of what she has learned or all that she is understanding, but she continually impresses us. She is in love with this Barney Farm Animal book that I have no idea where it came from and one day we realized that she knew all kinds of animal sounds from it. She knows that the horse says Neigh, the pig says Oink, and the goat says Maa. We were so impressed. She also knows that the clock says Tick Tock and the car says Beep Beep. She has a couple of new food words this month including Cracker and Apple. She says both of them quite clearly. She is very into saying Mine and No this month. I'm pretty sure this is a sign of more to come, but she is definitely beginning to figure out her independence. We've had a breakthrough though with her finally accepting that some things are "Mama's" and not "Finley's". I love that she is beginning to discover the world in new ways... I just hope I can encourage her independence while also teaching her to share.
8. Little Miss Personality: As I said above, her social personality is becoming more apparent as she says "Hi" to just about everyone. This past month we have been going to a Bible Study where she was with some older kids and she has shown more anxiety about me leaving than ever before. Usually, I can sit down with her and get her to play with a toy before I leave and she does fine, but I think she has felt out of her comfort zone a bit. When I pick her up, they always say she had a blast while I wasn't there so I think she just doesn't know what to think at first. She is really trying to be a big girl these days and copies so many things that we do. It's so cute, but also a bit scary.... it's so hard when they want to grow up so fast! I just want her to enjoy being a baby!
She has been pretty happy this month with just a few fussy moments here and there. I have found that there isn't much that music can't fix so when she is having a fussy moment, we just put on some iTunes and she is all better! I truly think I have one of the easiest babies alive!
9. All in a Day's Work: Finley has continued to be on a great schedule! She usually sleeps until 9 and still takes two naps. I think she is getting her 2 year old molars because she has been eating and sleeping even more than normal and has had a runny nose at times. This is probably the reason for her binky addiction as well! It's been too hot to play outside or run too many errands, but we have been having a great time just staying home and hanging out together. Sometimes I get sad that we haven't "done" more this summer, but then I realize that there will be many summers of non-stop action so I am just going to enjoy this time at home with her.
10. I'm Loving It!: One of my favorite things that she does right now happens in the car. Whenever we drive somewhere, she will say "Mama!" and I'll say "Yes, sweetie?" and she'll say "Mama!" and I'll say "What, beautiful?" This will continue four or five times and then she'll say "Hi!" with the sweetest voice ever created and I just melt. I love that she wants to talk to me and when she can't see me, she wants to know I'm nearby. Another thing I love right now is that she is realizing that the Bible is a special book. She will bring me her little toddler bibles and say "Bible" and sort of pets it. And when I read out of our daily devotional Bible, she always so proudly says "Bible". She also has this sweet little smile when she says "Jesus". I pray constantly that Finley will have a heart for the Lord so these things give me such joy!!!!
