As disorganized as the bullet points were, I think I'm going to go back to that for this post so that I can just "jot" down things and I am pretending it's okay if I don't post a zillion pictures with each post about her as well! One day maybe I'll have time to go back and put those in, but I really just want these posts to capture who she is and how she's changing so that I don't forget all the day-to-day things about her.
- She says "hot poffee" instead of hot coffee and I think that's adorable.
- She now stays in her seatbelt thanks to the wonderful advice I found on the Internet... I simply put the top clips on backwards so now they face in towards her chest and she isn't able to manuever them well enough to get them unclipped.
- She is incredibly loving right now. She will just randomly come give hugs and kisses for no reason at all and if you ask for a hug, she is usually happy to give you a huge squeeze. It melts my heart.
- She is absolutely in love with Jesus. She can finish the songs of Christian radio that I didn't even know she knew. I will hear her in the backseat singing along and it's clear she knows some of the words because she will often sing them a bit early.
- She also loves to pray. We pray every night before she goes to bed and we have a steady habit of praying in the mornings on the way to school or BSF. The other day we pulled into the parking lot of school and she said "Mama, pray!" I wanted to cry because it was so sweet. There have also been several times when we've prayed that she will ask us to "Pray Again" and we are happy to oblige. Oh, how I hope and pray that these seeds are producing eternal fruit!
- She has started wanting to fill up her own sippy cup with water and ice. We have to help her, but it's fun to see her wanting to do it by herself.
- When she doesn't want our help and wants to do something by herself, she always says "Finley help." It took me a couple of days to figure out that that meant "I do it!" Ha, ha!
- She is also really into cleaning and will clean up her messes if you give her a damp cloth. I'm thankful for this even though sometimes I think she likes making a mess just to clean it up.
- She is addicted to her Caillou and Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear books and must have them with her in bed. Not only does she want them read to her, but she also wants to sleep with them.
- She also likes her Bible Story read at night and tries to sleep with it. It's quite big though and usually we hear it thump to the ground shortly after we leave her room.
- She LOVES Daddy's yogurt. We used to buy her smaller yogurt designed for toddlers, but she would look in the refrigerator and say "Daddy's yogurt" meaning that she wanted the regular yogurt that Daddy eats.
- She also loves applesauce right now. She is still pretty picky when it comes to eating.
- She is really understanding cause and effect. I love this recent development. I can now say "After this, we are going to...." or "When you pick that up, we'll get that out." It has made a world of difference in how our day goes.
- She is still a pretty good sleeper, but has recently started the bad habit of waking up at least once in the middle of the night. We go in and she is usually easy to put right back to sleep, but sometimes it is hard for me to fall back asleep after being woken up.
- She is learning her colors. Yellow and pink are her favorite. She insists everything that is red is "pink" and we are letting it go for now. =) She also knows orange and green pretty well.
- She can count to ten fairly consistently, but sometimes counts up to 15. She doesn't always cooperate when it comes to counting, but I have heard her counting things on her own and know she can do it.
- She loves my cell phone and can work it pretty well. I downloaded some flashcards on it and I love going through them with her because I really learn a lot about her vocabulary and how her little mind processes everything.
- She and Daddy run around the kitchen island and dining room table almost every night. It cracks me up. She loves to be chased!
- She got a music box from Grandma and PaPa for Christmas and it is now an essential part of our bedtime routine. She must have it playing, the radio, and the fan on in order to sleep. She also likes every blanket and stuffed animal in sight. =) I think we might need to cut down on her "choices" a bit.
- She has recently started wanting to have her diaper changed downstairs instead of upstairs.
- She loves to whisper and will put her little finger to her lips and say "Shhhhh". I would love to get this on video because she is the cutest thing I've ever seen when she does this. I literally can't explain it, but the face she makes is too precious for words.
- She enjoys coloring and has gotten a lot better at it.
- She also like playdough and likes to make a heart and a snake. Granted, she usually needs help with the heart so she comes to us for that part.
- She uses both her right and left hands still so we can't decide which is her dominate. She probably uses her right hand more, but she holds crayons and pencils perfectly in her left hand.
- She's mostly in 2T clothing. She has some 18-24 month stuff that fits, but I only buy her 2T now.
- She loves playing "Night, Night" and will ask me to lay on the couch and close my eyes. Then she'll cover me with a blanket and whisper "Mommy sleeping."
- She is obsessed with stickers. She LOVES them.
- She loves the dog and cat and requests for them to be inside a million times a day. She is their biggest advocate!
- On the weekends when Devin is home, we often are referred to as "Daddy, Momma" and "Momma, Daddy" because she is so used to starting with one of our titles that she will start calling us the opposite and switch to our actual one. It's so cute.
- She has a problem keeping her shoes one and they almost always come off in the car or in the stroller. I actually got in a verbal fight with a lady in the mall over this at Christmastime!
- She prefers to sit in the big basket part now when we go shopping.
- She can crawl into our super-high bed by herself now.
- She graduated to a twin bed the week after Christmas and has done GREAT. She has fallen out a couple of times, but has really adjusted well. She still says in bed until we come to get her regardless of the fact that she can easily get in and out on her own.
- I'm amazed at her memory because she will remember things that I don't or recall the last person who called on the phone, etc.
- She is going through an amazingly sweet phase right now, but does act out quite a bit when I am on the phone or on the computer too long or if I'm having a long conversation with someone in person. Once she starts fussing, it's pretty much all over.
- She loves Children's Day Out and we talk about her "friends" after school. It's cute how she calls them by name and lights up when she sees them.
- She goes biserck when she sees a school bus. She LOVES them!
- She can spot an airplane out of nowhere. I've learned to completely trust her when she says she sees one even if I don't see it right away, I usually do about five minutes later and realize that she was right.
- She likes to argue. Seriously, she is so funny. She really does enjoy arguing with us. She knows that "red light stop" and "green light go" but she will argue with us forever saying "red light go, daddy!" or "green light stop, mommy!" She says it in a way that it's hard to get mad... it's like she knows she is super-cute. Oh, dear!
- She's very into washing her hands. We ended up buying an ugly step stool for our downstairs bathroom so that she could wash her hands on her own. It is hideous, but it's the only one we could find that was tall enough for her to reach the faucet.
- She's getting better about letting us brush her teeth. She will open wide and actually let us brush on them a bit.
- She loves baths especially since I bought her some of the color tabs for her Christmas stocking. Now when it's bathtime, she goes straight upstairs and wants to pick what color her bath will be!
- She loves having her "boo boo's" kissed and will want you to kiss just the right spot!
- We've recently started going out to get the mail together and she loves it. She specifically enjoys getting Daddy's paper for him.
I know this is exceptionally long, but since I hadn't done one in two months, there was a lot to say. I'm sure I'll think of more, but that will just be put into next month's!
I feel like the most blessed mom to be Finley's mom! I just can't describe how wonderful it has been these past few weeks. I just love the little personality she is showing and am enjoying her more than ever. It's not that I ever didn't enjoy her, but I think I'm starting to realize how much our hectic schedule was getting in the way of my spending quality time with her. Having a much slower pace these past few weeks has really allowed me to get to know her better and enjoy her on a new level. It's such a wake up call as to how important it is for me to correctly prioritize our time!
