Life with Two: Week 3

Well, fortunately, this week consisted of several less doctor's appointments for which we are all thankful!

Here's just a brief update:

Jude:
JC had another doctor's appointment and he is back up to his birthweight and doing great!  We'll see Dr. K again in a few weeks for his 2 month well check, but thankfully, our little man continues to be healthy!

Jude has had a few possible smirks this past week leaving me nothing but anxious for the smiles that I know are ahead.  Unfortunately, he has also been super congested lately which has interefered a bit with his sleep.  For the most part, he is a good sleeper even at night, but we do have a few issues to work out... thankfully, he continues to sleep 4-5 hour stretches every once in awhile which has been heavenly.

One of the major changes we made this week was with naptime.  I decided to start putting him down for his naps in his cradle instead of keeping him downstairs with me.  In trying to establish a sleep routine, I knew it would be best to keep all sleep (naps and nighttime sleep) the same, but I was a bit sad to make this move so early.  I think I kept Finley downstairs until she was 4-5 months old! =)  Anyway, it turned out to be a great decision.  Not only is Jude establishing a sleep routine, but I found that Finley and I were able to spend more quality time together and that I was able to be more productive because I wasn't constantly checking on him or trying to keep the ever vigilant sister from waking him up! =)

Finley:
Our little girl is handling the cast just fine!  I am always amazed at how resilient and adaptable she is.  The only time it seems to be bothersome is when she's trying to get onto the couch or into her bed.  Other than that, she doesn't even seem to notice it.  I'm so thankful!

Admittedly, a large, heavy, abrasive cast is not the best accessory to have with a newborn baby at home. It has been difficult to constantly keep watch over her near Jude.  Obviously, just the fact that she is 2 means I was already a bit paranoid, but now I find myself exhausted trying to allow Finley to still adore her baby brother while also keeping him safe from harm.

I should also report that the past week or so, Finley has been a bit fussy... Along with breaking her wrist, she is also teething 4 molars (here she's taking medicine for her aches and pains!) and is obviously adjusting to the major change of having a brother.  Even with the unusual fussiness and bad attitude, I am still impressed most days with how well she's handling everything.  She continues to snap out of her bad moods fairly quickly and I am reminded again and again how important consistency is especially with discipline.  I love her so much more than I can say and her "bad" days just demonstarte that all the more.

Me:
This week I braved my first errand with both kids.  After picking Finley up from MDO, I asked her if she wanted to go to Target.  At first, she said no, but then started saying "Mommy, Target... shopping."  A girl after my own heart!  So off we went and it went better than I expected.

Finley sat in the big part and I put Jude's carseat carrier in the front.  Fortunately, I didn't have much to get, but since they were doing so well, I browsed a bit which was a nice change of pace for me.  I am glad that I survived and feel encouraged that I CAN do this!

I also ordered our double stroller this week.  I can't wait to get it in!!!!!!  We have looked at pretty much every double stroller on the market.  We've changed our mind about a million times and ended up with the very first one that I wanted.  The exciting part was that I found it for $150 less than I had ever seen it!  I even found it for less than the 2008 models that are being sold.  I'm looking forward to zoo trips, walks at the park, and trips to the mall!

Devin:
Though I'm a little jealous, Finley's school had Donuts with Dads this week so Devin took Finley to school on Wednesday and had donuts with her.  I really wanted to tag along to capture every moment, but figured that would be frowned on. =)  I did snap a quick pic of them before they left.

Devin loved spending time with Finley and thought it was pretty cute when she pointed to her friend and said "Reed!"  It's so crazy to see her as a "big" girl and interacting with the kids in her class.  In fact, the first time I picked her up with Jude, Liddy in her class points to me and says "BABY JUDE!!!!"  I laughed and asked if she wanted to see Jude and her eyes got huge when I pulled him out of the sling for her to see!  She clearly hadn't expected him to be hidden there, but I just loved that she knew I was Finley's mom and that Finley had been talking about her baby brother at school.  Also, Reed's mom told me later that Reed came home and told his dad "Finley has a cast!"  What a fun age when they can talk to each other and about each other.  I'm so glad that Devin was able to see Finley in her element at school!  It's fun to hear his reactions and know that he is establishing such an important bond with his little girl.

Visitors:
We've had a lot of visitors over the past few weeks, but I haven't been the best about taking pictures.  This week I did a lot better.  Though I did forget to take a picture of Allison when she came over to visit!

On Sunday, Uncle Kenny came to meet Jude.  As soon as they show up, it's pretty much like Devin and I no longer exist.....

Finley showing off her new brother to Aunt Beth.

I LOVE THIS PICTURE!

Uncle Kenny officially being "stickered".

Uncle Kenny's famous helicopter ride!

I love how much Finley loves them.  I can't wait until Jude is running around begging Uncle Kenny for his own helicopter ride or wanting Aunt Beth to "boof" him.  I am so thankful that not only do my kids love them, but that they love my kids the way they do!!!!

On Monday, Amy, Adam, and Nathan came over...

The boys.... Lots of fun in their future, I'm sure!

I love this picture of all the cousins!

Amy H., Liberty, and Emory also came over this week to meet Jude.  Amy crocheted Jude the cutest hat ever!  I can't wait to take a picture of him in it.

They did not stay long enough!  Finley was having so much fun with them.

It was a nice break in our week to have them visit.  I'm looking forward to warmer weather and being able to get together with friends again.

All-in-all it was another great week in our life as a family of four.  It's so hard to believe that next week will be a full month with our newest addition.  I continue finding myself falling deeper and deeper in love with my sweet family!
