Happy Birthday, Beth!
I am not an easy person to be friends with. I pout. I give the silent treatment. I expect a lot. I expect more than a lot. I get my feelings hurt easily. I'm selfish. I have this huge fear of abandonment. I push people away. I'm impatient and insecure.
(I could go on, but this obviously isn't painting me in the best light.)
To be my best friend.... well, that takes a saint. Fortunately, I know one.
Being my best friend, requires lots of patience, love, and GRACE. It requires ignoring my bad side, encouraging my good one, listening to me analyze everything to death, listening to me analyze everything to death for a third, fourth, and sometimes even one hundredth time, standing next to me on the day I said "I do", letting me stand next to her when she said "I do", taking multiple pictures together to get just one I'm happy with, calling me on the phone because I hate being the "caller," being decisive about where we're going to eat because I'm not, driving in the middle of the night to be there when I gave birth to my first child, praying through two snow storms in order to be able to attend the birth of my second child, learning how to overcome the silent treatment, recognizing that the word "frizz" and my hair in the same sentence will always ellicit tears, letting me sign into her Facebook account since I refuse to get one, enduring endless discussions on the best birthday party theme, being my fashion guru, dropping everything to talk about the latest tv show we're watching, loaning me books that I want to read but am too cheap to buy, fixing my makeup for important events, reading my blog and actually commenting on it, helping me identify Satan's lies, giving me decorating advice, telling me I look beautiful when I don't feel like it, motivating me to eat healthier and work out more, laughing at jokes that only we understand, loving my kids almost as much as I do, keeping me accountable to being the Godly woman I desire to be, being the sister I never had, and admittedly, filling in as a surrogate mother on occassion when I need a female family member.
No matter how our lives change, Beth is always there and seems to adapt naturally to what I need. I pray everyday for God to protect our friendship and use it to bring Him glory.
I can't imagine my life without her.
I love you, Beth! Happy Birthday.
