Moving Day

Newborn Finley in Her Crib

Newborn Finley in Her Cradle

So yesterday was Moving Day... at least, it was for Finley.  After five months and one week, she finally moved into her beautiful nursery and out of our room.  (She's been taking naps in her crib for months now, but always sleeps in her cradle at night.)  I won't lie.  It was hard.  Really hard.  But it's good as well and I have a feeling that with most things "mother," that is the case. Always a mixture of good and difficult; blessing and hardship.

So let's focus first on the Blessings:
  • My precious husband and I finally have OUR room back to ourselves... our own little retreat just for us.
  • We have a daughter who is healthy enough to live in her own room.
  • We have a daughter who is able to sleep through the night on her own.
  • The rate of SIDs is now significantly lower so there is little risk of something happening during the night.
  • She will hopefully break the habit of waking up at 4:45 a.m. with daddy's alarm clock.
  • Our little girl can still stay in our room every once in awhile under strict guidelines since I am very adamant about her understanding that mommy and daddy need "their" time together.
  • I can once again enjoy my end table directly next to my bed and therefore, have easy access to my lamp, my book, the remote, etc.
  • The ugly dog bed can go back into the corner of the room where it is no longer visible.
  • It will be much easier to get out of bed in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom without a cradle to straddle.
  • We are embarking on fun, new journeys as she is getting older including her ability to sleep in her very own room.
I probably should end the post here and just focus on the good because it really is ALL good, but I feel compelled to share why it is also hard for me...
  • Our daughter is no longer right next to me when I wake up in the middle of the night and just want to check on her.
  • Our daughter no longer needs my hand placed on her little chest as she tries to settle herself into deep sleep.
  • It is a much longer walk when she wakes up in sudden need of a binkie.
  • I can't peek at her peacefully sleeping face as often or as easily as I could with her next to me.
  • Our little girl is growing up quickly and let's face it, I do not handle change well! =)
