Devin took Friday off for his birthday so Finley and I were pretty excited to have 3 whole days with him! The weather was beautiful so Devin put up our Christmas lights and I worked on a few projects of my own. Even though we didn't do anything exciting, it was nice to just have time at home together.
Daddy Enjoying Some Rare Cuddle Time From Finn
Around 8, Finley started getting fussy so I put her to bed and about an hour later, we hear her crying. Devin went up to retrieve a binky since that is usually the cause of any crying, but she had both binkies still in bed with her. She had shown obvious signs of teething the last few days so Devin went to get her some Tylenol while I rocked her. I don't know why, but I just started getting really worried about her. She was not being her self and it was really starting to scare me. It took us awhile to get her back to sleep as she just wanted to lay on our chests and snuggle.
I turned the monitor up before we went to bed so that I would hear her if she woke up and though she did wake several times in the night, she went right back to sleep. On Saturday, she woke up around 8 and seemed happy, but when we put her down for a nap at 10 a.m. she slept until 2! I took her temperature several times and she was running a low fever. She went back to sleep at 4 and slept until 6:30 p.m. By this point even Devin was beginning to worry a bit.
Cheering on the Cowboys Even with a Fever
Devin and I had dinner reservations at Mickey Mantle's and though we had originally contemplating letting Finley stay the night at Grandma and PaPa's, Devin quickly decided that with her being sick that we would pick her back up. Thankfully, she was still eating well and was in a happy mood when awake, but was just a bit fussier and needier than usual. We had a great time at dinner and ended up with a table next to Dwight Howard of the Orlando Magic. He seemed like a really nice guy. He ordered for his girlfriend and pulled her chair out for her and drank countless Shirley Temple's!
Lola kept the sick girl company
On Sunday morning, Finley woke up with a fever still so we decided not to go to church. She slept all day long again and when I took her temperature at 5:00 p.m., it was up to 101 under the arm (which some say you need to add a degree to making it 102) which really worried me. I ended up calling the nurse line since I wasn't sure what to do. I have really avoided the whole paranoia of the swine flu, but admittedly, at this point, I was one of those freaked-out parents who thought her baby might need a trip to the ER!
The nurse was soooo nice! I was so grateful since I know they deal with this all the time and probably find it a bit annoying. The nurse asked me a ton of questions and said that 104 degree fever warrants a trip to the ER and that most pediatricians want to see a baby after 3 days of running a fever since most infections clear up on their own. It was just a relief to hear what I was supposed to do and to have clarification on when to go where.
Finley has continued to run the fever even after a dose of Tylenol. She is still drooling up a storm and has a VERY runny nose, but hopefully, she will be back to her normal self soon. This is the first time she has really been sick so I'm not sure what to do with myself!
Even though it wasn't the birthday weekend we had planned, Devin and I really had a great time together. It's the first time we've actually been able to watch OSU play on t.v. and we enjoyed getting to have a leisurely dinner together. Finley being sick sort of gave us an excuse to just stay home and be lazy together and I am a firm believer that sometimes those are the best memories!
