We had a great Thanksgiving weekend this year! I love Thanksgiving and am frustrated that Christmas is threatening to invade it earlier and earlier. I love Christmas too, but not until Thanksgiving is fully celebrated!
Here is just an overview of our weekend:
Thursday:
On Thursday, we woke up and packed the car to head to my dad's house. It's almost two hours to his house so I wasn't sure how Finley would do, but she was pretty good and Jude slept almost the whole way even though he hadn't been up for very long.
Once at my dad's house, we prepped lunch and then sat down to eat! My dad ordered food from the Country Club and it was really good. Devin said it was some of the best ham he had ever had! As much as I like holiday cooking, I admit it was also nice to just show up! I did make my grandma's dressing... I'm still trying to perfect the recipe.
After we ate lunch, my dad took Finley for a tractor ride.
Followed by a ride on the 4 wheeler!
She has a BLAST! She loved seeing the cows and was just so happy to be out and about!
When we came back inside, she was kind of a wild child since it was naptime! Thankfully, Uncle West and Aunt Tracey came to the rescue and were happy to help entertain her!
Jude on the other hand was really warm and was obviously not feling well. He wasn't cranky, but was falling asleep in my arms which he hasn't done in forever. I kind of liked it even though I hated that he was sick. I love cuddling my boy!
We hung around for most of the afternoon until it became clear that Finley was on the verge of absolute meltdown. She was asleep in the car before we even hit the highway which was GREAT!
I love how much Finley loves my family even though she doesn't see them that often! And of course, I love how much they love her! Seeing my dad and brother with my kids is such a treat for me!
Once home, we found that Jude was running a 103 degree. Poor boy! We put him to bed at 6:45 and he didn't wake up until the next morning at 9:30 a.m. BLESS HIS HEART!
After the kids went to bed, we pulled out the Christmas tree and then went to bed ourselves!
Friday:
I got up early and hit a Black Friday sale that was an absolute bust! I don't know why I thought it would be a good idea to go, but it WASN'T! =) I actually kind of liked being a part of the shopping action, but was sad that I had wasted a couple of hours that I could've been at home. Fortunately, when I got home, they had only been up about 20 minutes so I hadn't missed anything at all.
Finley was SUPER excited about the tree! She couldn't wait to tell me all about it!
After breakfast, we put on ornaments and Finley had a great time helping with them.
She kept calling them "jingle bells", but has finally learned that they are indeed called ornaments. =)
Jude tried to help as well!
We spent the rest of the day watching football, decorating the mantle, and stairs. Devin also hung up our outside lights which takes forever, but is always so worth it!
It was a perfect day in my mind. I love spending time with my family at home with no agenda! It was much, much, much needed!
Saturday:
Jude seemed a little better, but we still took it pretty easy. Devin and Finley made pancakes while I made hashbrowns. We ate breakfast and then I started the process of cleaning out our guest room (the new nursery) while Devin worked on some other house projects.
Finley was so excited to see the tree... when we put her to bed on Friday, she said "Don't take the tree down while I'm asleep." She was sooooo afraid that Christmas was going to be over and that the tree wasn't going to stay up!!!!! It was sooooooooooo cute!
During naptime, I ran to the grocery store and Devin paid bills. Pretty normal stuff, but nice to be able to do it without being in a rush to do so!
That night, we went to Devin's parents' house and had pizza. We came home and got the kids to bed and watched some more football!
Sunday:
Jude was still running a fever on and off so we skipped church. A rare thing for us, but I admit it is nice to do so every once in awhile. I love our church and am so happy to go each Sunday, but every once in awhile it is nice to spend the morning at home.
Finley was excited to see Daddy again as she kept asking if he was going back to work the next day. For her to have Daddy get her up for four days in a row is a crazy treat and she completely enjoyed it!
Jude definitely seemed to be feeling better, but was still a bit clingy and sleepy. Finley was in a great mood and played quite a bit by herself so I tackled the guest room some more.
By five, I was desperate to get out of the house. I was just itching to do something!!!!! So we loaded up the car and went to Goodwill to give away all the stuff I had managed to box up from the guest room. After that, we headed to Chesapeake to look at the Christmas lights. It never fails to impress! No matter how many times we go, I just love it!!!!!
We truly had a great Thanksgiving weekend! Devin and I just looked at each other Sunday night and laughed at how blessed we are. Our kids are just amazing! I know Jude was sick most of the weekend, but Finley was just a joy. She is going through a really sweet phase right now where she is very into apologizing for things and giving kisses and being super concerned about others. She is also playing well independently. I don't know how long this phase will last, but it is really nice to have her be so sweet and not the typical 3 year old! =) Of course, we love her no matter what, but it was just a GREAT weekend!
