When I turned on to our street, I saw a delivery truck towards our end of the street and thought "Hmm... wonder what Ruby is getting!" (Ruby is our neighbor.)
But as I got closer, I saw "my chairs" being scooted to the end of the truck and I just stopped in the middle of the street.
No. Surely not.
My dining room table and chairs? Being delivered? That's crazy!
But yes, sure enough, after 6 years of looking at a table I absolutely detest, my wait is over! In our dining room, now sits a beautiful table that I could stare at FOREVER! =)
(To be fair, our old table wasn't THAT bad, but it was a square table which made table cloths impossible to find and it was two-toned, but not in two tones that I liked. HA!)
I called Devin and immediately said "You're in trouble!"
He laughed, but said he was disappointed because they were supposed to deliver it between 9 and 11 and he wanted it all set up for me and was planning to put our table settings out and everything before I got home. Isn't he the SWEETEST?????
Of course, the delivery guys were late (11:15) and I pulled up on the surprise, but for me, it was still fun! I was still shocked regardless! I am sad that Devin didn't get to see my reaction since he had worked so hard to surprise me. I beat him home by about 5 minutes...
(Jude's chair at the end is from the old table... he isn't quite ready to be promoted to new chairs yet!)
I am so excited about this new table! I know that it is a material item and I know that I am VERY blessed to be able to have such an expensive present for Christmas (we have been ABUNDANTLY blessed this year by Devin's job and we could NOT be more thankful!!!!!). I also know that this is the table that I will spend mornings learning God's Word. The place where my 3 kids will argue over who gets the last cookie. It's where they will learn to share their feelings. Where we will laugh and cry and dream and plan. The spot we will gather for important announcements, celebrations, and practice spelling tests. It is where we will create memories and where we will grow. It will bear the marks of cars crashing into it and dents from being moved from one house to another. It will endure endless amounts of spilled drinks and ruined dinners. It will have knicks from my carelessness and possibly markers that shouldn't have gone near it. And I love that! For me, it is far more than a table. It is the new center of our home and I can't wait to see what happens around it!
