A month ago, I wrote THIS post... I have definitely been in nesting mode ever since. Beth said she laughed at my Type-A-ness after reading it and it's true... I am so Type A, but I do think this go round I have been enjoying things more and while I do hope to get as much as possible done before our little girl arrives I'm trying to keep it all in perspective and just have fun with it!
Here's a little update:
FOR THE ROOM:
Crib Bedding-- I was so thankful that it came in EARLY! I received it in only 2 weeks versus the 4-6 weeks that I was expecting. And I LOVE it! It's very neutral. Very girly. Very vintage. I wish it had come in a light gray color, but the griege color I bought will be easy to work with.
Wall Color-- Since I wasn't planning on the bedding coming in so quickly, I picked the wall color based on the fabric swatch I had. BIG mistake! Once the bedding came in, I knew the color of the wall was all wrong. Even Devin agreed. Back to Sherwin Williams I went. Thankfully, I wanted to go darker and they were able to use the paint we had already bought, but now that it is on the wall, it still isn't dark enough. I don't hate it, but it's making it more difficult to chose the drape color.
Buffet/Changing Table-- Devin has been working hard to get the buffet painted and it is finally done. Still need to get hardware finished (the pink knobs are going....), but should be able to move it into the room this weekend and start folding all of her sweet little clothes and putting them away! Can't wait for that!
Frames-- I bought frames to go over the buffet and they came in. I haven't figured out what I'm going to frame yet... probably a couple of maternity pictures along with her newborn pictures and then a few quotes/Bible Verses that have meaning.
Things I'm still hoping to finish on the room are to buy a vinyl monogram to go over her crib... assuming we ever decide to name this girl! HA! I also would like to find a vintage chair to go in the corner and I really need to find drapes because it is super-bright in there right now! Oh, and we need to change the light fixture as well. I really am not sure this nursery is ever going to come together. I know C3 won't care, but it bugs me a bit that I can't seem to pull it all together the way I want to!
CLOTHES:
Outfits-- I've spent the last month scooping up cute newborn and 0-3 month sized outfits. I think I have enough to get us started and since I don't know how quickly she will grow, I don't want to go too overboard. I also know that I will want to buy her some stuff once she is here. I did find her a cute swimsuit at Target for $6 that I can't wait to see her in! =)
Headbands and hats-- I ordered her some stuff off of etsy. I wanted to go crazy on hats, but I only bought her one so far. Since it is going to be warm, I think I'll have her in headbands more than hats, but I also feel like the first few weeks, she'll need help holding her temperature... ugh! Not sure I'm exactly prepared in this department, but it's not one that is super important! HA!
Newborn pictures-- I am in the process of booking with a newborn photographer who has a lot of props so I didn't really order her anything specifically for pictures, but I think a lot of the headbands I bought will work nicely for pictures.
Things I'm still needing to buy are little bloomers for her newborn pics and I would love to have a few monogrammed things for her as well. I'd love to make her a dress or two, but I don't think it is likely!
BABY GEAR:
Ergo-- I had planned to buy a cute, girly Ergo, but ended up with a neutral black and gray one. I'm soooooo excited about this purchase. I bought the newest one that is supposed to be lighter weight and cooler which is a must if this summer is anywhere nearly as hot as last summer. After reading more about the Ergo, I found that we could not only use it for C3, but could actually carry both Jude and Finley in it as well! It can go on our backs and I think we'll definitely be using it that way with Jude! I don't know that we'll carry Finley in it, but since we have the option to use it in so many ways, I wanted to buy one that Devin wouldn't mind being seen in! I'm forseeing lots of zoo trips with the Ergo in our future!
Swing-- I also bought a swing. I was so on the fence about this purchase because it was expensive and I wasn't sure it was the best use of our money. Devin also wasn't crazy about another large baby item in our small house, but agreed that we were going to need another spot for her besides just a bouncy chair with two other crazy kids running around. Fortunately, while helping our neighbors with a garage sale, another neighbor put out a swing that she had used with her grandson and I scooped it up before she could even get it set out! It was only $25 and was the exact swing that I had been looking at. Now I feel so good about this purchase even if C3 hates it or we decide it is in the way more than it is a help!
Carseat-- We bought Finley a new carseat for Christmas, but after really looking at it, I decided I hated it. It is difficult to buckle and since I'm going to be reaching around from the front to buckle it, I knew I needed something that I could work easily. We also hope that Finley will be able to buckle herself in the next year and with this one, you had to not only snap the chest pieces together, but bring two lower pieces together and snap them together before you can buckle them into the lower buckle part. It just wasn't going to work well for us. So I found another carseat--- a MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE one, but one that is very sturdy and is less bulky than most. This company is known for making carseats that fit three across which is what we'll be doing so it was perfect for us. We're going to install it and decide if we want to buy another one for Jude so that we can fit those two along with the infant one in our car easily.
The only "thing" we really have left to buy is another carseat for Jude if that's what we decide. I do want to thoroughly clean out the infant carseat once we move Jude into his "new" one. I also can't decide what to do about our double stroller situation. The one we have right now is side-by-side and I think I might like a double Sit-N-Stand instead....
MISCELLANEOUS:
Gifts from Jude and Finley to C3-- This is pretty much done. I bought a Little Sister book for her and then a Little Sister newborn outfit and a Little Sister pair of pajamas that will fit her awhile from now. Finley was happy to help make those choices!
Gifts to Jude and Finley from C3-- I ordered Jude and Finley Big Brother and Big Sister books as well and then ordered them Big Brother pajamas and Big Sister pajamas. Finley requested matching pajamas with her sister from day one so I wanted to get those for her. Unfortunately I couldn't find any small pajamas that matched hers so they won't all be able to wear theirs together until C3 is a year old, but that's okay! I also ordered them puzzles with their newborn picture on them. I thought it would be something they could do at the hospital and that we could see whether C3 looks more like Finley or Jude. I know Jude will be too young for his puzzle, but he still likes playing with the pieces!
Packing for the Hospital-- I've packed C3 except for any last minute monogrammed additions that might happen. I haven't finished packing me yet.
Freezer Meals-- Thankfully, I know that we will have friends bring us meals for the first couple of weeks, but I am hoping to stash away as many meals as I can before C3 makes her arrival. I have already made a week's worth of meals and I have realized that I totally need to start doing Once-a-Month cooking. It is so much cheaper and it doesn't take much time to do, but saves me so much stress at the end of the day!
Things left to do... I would REALLY like to get my hair cut and colored and maybe a pedicure before this baby comes! It may not get done again for awhile so I'm trying to wait as close to my due date as possible! I'd also like to make some more freezer meals and I also need to "pack" Finley and Jude. I've made out their schedule, but I need to have all of their stuff ready so that I'm not stressing about them if I go into labor suddenly. I'm also having shirts made for them to wear to the hospital and haven't gotten those completed yet. And obviously, I need to finish packing for me!
I'd also like to have some activities planned for us to do around the house the first few weeks. I'm afraid Finley is going to be very bored and I would love to have some special crafts and other things that we could do together while Jude and C3 are napping.
I wish I could stay in Nesting Mode after pregnancy! I love when I WANT to clean our house and when I WANT to organize everything. Even though I appreciate things being clean and I absolutely love having a place for everything, I find it a low priority for how I usually want to spend my time! Right now, I feel so energized to just get everything put away and to keep things picked up as much as possible. I just know I will have a "bad" day and it'll be the day C3 decides to come and my house will be a total disaster!
