Spring Break 2012

I loved breaks when I was growing up.  Since my mom was a teacher, we always stayed home with her and I have great memories from those times.  We couldn't afford to go on vacations so it wasn't what it was for so many kids, but I never knew any differently.  I think it's one of the reasons why I have no desire to plan anything super special for Spring Break, Fall Break, etc.  I just want my kids to enjoy being home!

Here's how we spent Spring Break this year...

Working a puzzle on Allison and Andy's garage floor!

Friday and Saturday:  Allison and Andy were having a garage sale so we threw some stuff in!  It was super fun and Finley had a blast just hanging out over there and talking to all the people who came by.  Ha!  I made enough money to buy the Ergo, the infant insert for it, and the swing that I got for $25 so it was totally worth it!  Devin painted the nursery while the kids and I hung out at the garage sale!

Sunday: We didn't have Sunday School so we had a relaxing morning before church.  That afternoon we got a few things done and then went on a family walk.  Nothing too exciting, but a fun day regardless.

Making Crowns in our Jammies

Monday: It rained all day so we mostly stayed in our pajamas.  I took dinner to a friend who had just had surgery and then we had a meeting that evening with our real estate agent... we are potentially building a house... more on this to come!

Pedicures at home

Tuesday: It was still kind of rainy so we went over to Mary's for a playdate.  Finley and Hunter play great together and I just know that Jude and Ryan will be great friends as well.  Though Mary and I were often chasing the youngest two around, we still had a chance to catch up which was really nice.  That night, I took dinner to a friend who had a baby.  When we got home, it was nice enough outside that Finley could ride her tricycle which has been her latest fascination! =)

Wednesday:  Even though it was supposed to be rainy, it was quite nice outside so we spent most of the morning playing "soccer" and swinging.  I had a doctor's appointment at 1:15 which is right before naptime for both Finley and Jude.  Even though my appointments are often very short, I decided to see if Grandma Jan could come over and watch them so that I didn't have to worry about them being cranky so close to naps.  As soon as I got to my appointment, I found out that my doctor had been called out to deliver a baby so I was really thankful that the kids weren't with me.  The appointment was still only an hour long even with it being delayed, but entertaining both of them for that time would have been difficult!

Thursday:  A very crazy day!  The original plan was for me to meet Beth that night and let her take Finley for a slumber party.  We were planning to take some maternity shots when I dropped Finley off, but the weather was terrible so that morning, Beth ends up texting me to see if we could meet in Guthrie for lunch so that she could get Finley early and then we could try maternity pics the next day when I picked her up.  So that's what we did and it was so fun to have sort of an impromptu afternoon with just Jude.  That night we went to eat over at Devin's parents house and Devin and I weren't sure what to do when the bedtime routine took all of 10 minutes with Jude when it usually takes 30-45 with both of them!  Though I absolutely love bedtime with Finley, it was kind of nice to have some time with just Jude.

Friday: Jude and I spent the morning just hanging out and then we headed to Stillwater after lunch.  Finley was down for a nap when we got there so we put Jude in the stroller and took pictures.  After awhile Jude grew tired of the stroller so we let him just crawl around.... muddy ground and all!  Ha, ha!  Finley napped the whole time which was so fortunate since it would have been nearly impossible to take pictures while entertaining both of them.  I'm so glad Beth took these pictures.  I'm not super crazy about maternity pictures, but I knew that I would be thankful for them some day.  I would love, love, love to have a picture of my mom when she was pregnant with me so I wanted to be able to have them for my kids in case one day they want them.  Thank goodness I took them with Beth who is my sister and I'm completely comfortable with!  We were adjusting all kinds of things and laughing at the fact that C3 was in there kind of crazy!

Finley threw a fit all the way home.  I think she was confused because she stayed with Grandma and Papa for two days a couple of weeks ago and was expecting to stay longer at Aunt Beth and Uncle Kenny's.  I would have pulled over, but it just didn't seem safe so when we got home, we had a long talk and I gave her discipline.  Thankfully, from there on out, she was fine.  It's hard at this age to explain time and for her to completely understand what is going on, but the fit was unacceptable!  That night we went and looked at a house that has a floorplan that we like and then just picked up dinner and hung out!

Saturday:  We mainly just ran errands and worked around the house.  It was nice to not have a lot on our schedule.  The weather was beautiful so Finley and Devin spent almost all morning outside working and playing!  Finley was an angel and it was so nice because last summer after we had left her with Aunt Beth and Uncle Kenny and Grandma and PaPa, it took a month for her to get back to herself!

That night, we went to the park and had a picnic.  We played and fed the ducks and ate dinner.

It was so much fun.  I really want us to do more things like this.  Our weekends always seem to get too full and I want us to spend more time just being together and doing simpler things!  No more projects!  Ha!

Sunday:  We had Sunday School and church and then came home for naps.  After naps, we again just spent time together outside.  It was so refreshing to just have time at home!

Obviously, nothing too exciting this year, but it was a great week and a much needed break from the norm!

(So I also need to take more pics of Jude.  I usually take pictures when he is down for a nap because it is easier to think about when I have one kid to focus on rather than two!  HA!  Poor Jude! )

Oh my word!!! She is so grown up and beautiful in that picture with Jude! Its funny that when I'm with her I don't notice as much b/c she seems so little, but she is just gorgeous! In that picture she looks like a big kid and not a little 3 year old!

We had fun with her and look forward to May!!! :)
