We're Here!

Finley is down for a morning nap, Devin is off with the guys exploring a battleship, I just finished my quiet time and now thought I'd take the chance to blog about our trip so far!

We survived airport security, but Devin was pulled off with our bags of baby food and formula for extra examination.  It was a bit difficult to get ALL of our stuff through the security line, but we managed and thankfully, the guards were very nice and understanding as were the people behind us who were trying to get around us.

The flight from OKC to Dallas was a short one, but a bit rough.  Finley was incredibly antsy and didn't want anything to do with being still.  She had plenty of excited shrieking, but it turned into fussiness by the time we landed and taxied forever to our gate.  For a nine month old, she did pretty well though I was pretty nervous about the much longer flight from Dallas to Pensacola.

Sweet girl, we can get you some food!!!  No need to eat the suitcase!

As you can tell from these pictures, she REALLY enjoyed her freedom during our layover in the airport.  I'm sure the floor was filthy, but she so needed a chance to explore.  Right before we boarded, I was able to get her to sleep in the sling and she slept on my chest for a good hour and a half of the flight.  She woke up as we were descending and was a little angel for the whole flight.  Which was an extra blessing since we flew through a storm (our wing was actually struck by lightning!!!) and had a pretty bumpy flight.

Once in Pensacola, our bags arrived quickly and after some trouble finding our rental car desk (we didn't know we were supposed to look for a shuttle instead), we finally were in our car on our way to the BEACH!  Finley ate her bottle in the car and took a little catnap until we arrived at our final destination.  We checked in and had the pack-n-play delivered by housekeeping, explored the resort (as you can see Finley went straight for her FAVORITE toy!!!!) and beach, found dinner, and went grocery shopping.

(First time sitting in a cart!  I think she liked it!)

Finley had a rough time getting to sleep in a new place.  We finally got her to sleep and then she woke up around 1:00 crying her very heart-wrenching newborn cry... I was scared.  I couldn't console her and thought that she was really sick.  She kept pulling on her ears and was just incredibly distraught.  We gave her Tylenol and still she was so upset.  Devin made her a bottle and I made the sign for food... she immediately calmed down and started looking around.  Turns out, traveling makes her super hungry.  I felt a little dumb for not trying the bottle sooner, but was just relieved that we wouldn't be trying to hunt down the nearest hospital.

Friday morning, we woke up to a huge storm.  I was bummed because it rained throughout my last beach vacation and so wanted to enjoy the sun for once.  We just stayed inside and took it easy.  Fortunately, it cleared up a little and we were able to introduce Finley to the sand and ocean for the very first time!  She loved it!  We didn't stay out long because it was time for lunch, but we at least had a little time in the sun!  We couldn't have asked for a better resort... they have a perfect little area for babies that is only about .5 foot deep!

After we played in the pool for awhile, we ventured onto the beach...

Notice the sand mustache?

After lunch, we explored a nearby town and did a little shopping at the Outlet Mall there.  It was quite stormy so we didn't have anything else to do.  We then met up with all of the wedding travelers that had made it here so far for dinner at The Hangout.  I'll blog more about it later since I haven't uploaded the pictures yet!

Today, I'm hoping to get out to the beach between all the rain that is forecasted.  Much more to come!

BTW, I got an airbrush tan (this is seriously the darkest I have EVER been and it still isn't THAT dark!) before we left and apparently, Finley did too!  Hee, hee!

I must not have been dry when I picked her up!

Ok...a few things.
1. Finley's swimsuit is SUPER cute!!!
2. I could tell you had gotten a spray tan b/c you look fabulously tan and it made me jealous.
3. Could the picture of you and her on the walkway in your navy shirt BE any cuter?!?!?!?

So glad ya'll are having fun! All the little mishaps and fusses give your vacation character...so enjoy every little second!

Love and miss you!

Finley is so cute on the beach, I definitely agree w/ Beth... I LOVE her swim suit. My conservative husband won't even let me put my babies in 2 pieces. I bought for Bella last year on vacay and he about had a fit so this year I was good, isn't that funny?

Beach babies are the best. I can't wait to take the girls to a GREAT beach one day in Mexico or Belize or somewhere beautiful like that. It looks like you have a nice beach though.

And, I LOVE LOVE LOVE spray tans, I'm the whitest of the whites and use some form and sunless tan all Summer so I can have a bit of a glow. It's so funny b/c my absolute best friend in the world has skin like Beth's and can get SUPER tan just by looking @ the sun. The pics of you and Beth together remind me of the pics of Amy and I together. I freckle and turn red -- fun times :).
